Some good Kdramas that are not straight-up rom-coms?

Hi everyone!

I'm going to Korea in August (hopefully) and I like to use Korean
drama and/or films to work on my language skills. I've been watching
a lot of them lately, but I seem to only ever find the "trendies;"
ones like You're Beautiful and Best Love. Now, don't get me wrong, I
don't dislike romantic comedy or romance in general, and I appreciate
a cute, light-hearted show. I also love me some eye candy now and
then. But I'm not looking for shows like that, because they are easy
to find.

What I am looking for are some more edgy, artsy kind of dramas. I know
they exist because I have seen Secret Investigation Record (also
called Joseon X-Files), and I LOVED it. Seriously gorgeous
cinematography and storytelling. So something in that vein might be
nice.

I also like stories that are more epic in scope, but still manage to
make you care about the characters. Like stories about epic heroes. My
favorite K-drama so far is actually Hong Gil Dong, though I
acknowledge that it had a TON of problems.

Something that combines these two aspects would be fantastic. Or maybe
even something thats a little "indie" and lesser known. Anyone have
any ideas?

PS: I'm already watching City Hunter, and it may just trump HGD as my
favorite. We'll see.
